Mission, Vision, Values, Goals
Our mission is to offer an affordable overnight camp experience for 11-13 year-old Baltimore lacrosse-playing boys to develop their skills and understanding of the game of lacrosse while growing habits for success, building positive individual and collective identity, and developing personal agency and powerful visions for their futures.
Vision
Boys will experience caring leadership from coaches who will teach the basic skills and values of lacrosse, including its indigenous spiritual and cultural roots, along with leadership skills such as self-discipline, goal-orientation, teamwork, and community. Graduates of the four-day program will carry these lessons back into their school and home communities. Student-athletes will return home with more secure identities, stronger focus and clearer goals, and better appreciation for diversity and community. In total they should be returning home as young men who understand a healthy relationship among sports, academics, and life.
Core Values
Discipline: Hard work, sacrifice, and patience bring success
Perspective: Sports is preparation for life
Teamwork: Commitment to team goals over individual = leadership
Goals:
Keep players physically and emotionally safe.
Teach lacrosse: history, values & skills of lacrosse tied directly to academic and life skills;
Teach that sports can be a complement and even an avenue to a good education and life — but that sports are not an end unto themselves;
Nurture a drive for personal, academic and athletic excellence through development of strong character and habits, including mindfulness and conflict resolution.
Build belief that everyone’s individual success and our collective success is crucial for successful teams, communities, and societies!
History and Founders
Our history
Baltimore Lacrosse, Inc, arose in response to the tragic deaths of young Baltimore men. Baltimore Lacrosse Founders saw the opportunity to leverage a love of sports, particularly lacrosse, the American First Nations 'Creator's Game,' to teach life skills and leadership alongside lacrosse playing skills as a means of promoting excellence and thriving in 11-13 year old boys. Knowing that the biggest challenges and temptations can be overcome with the help of a) a great, similarly grounded peer group, b) effective coaches and role models, and c) habits of mind and deeds for success, we create a small, closeknit community experience that teaches leadership tools and skills along with lacrosse skills.
